Admitted to the bar: New Zealand 1988, Victoria, Australia 1994
Garry has practiced in leading national law firms in New Zealand and Australia. Garry advises private and public sector entities about a wide range of activities. Those entities cross the spectrum of corporate entities (internationally owned through to closely held companies), conducting business in a range of areas (manufacturing, banking, technology, services, energy (electricity and gas) distribution) domestically and internationally.
Garry also advises public sector entities (government departments, local authorities, statutory corporations and quangos) about commercial and social service activities (from policy development to implementation).
Garry is a recognised public speaker and trainer and has presented on a number of legal issues.
Garry chose to move to Taranaki in 2004 from Wellington because the weather was better, cycling safer and the surf bigger. And he still gets to provide creative advice in innovative ways to great clients.
Garry has particular expertise and knowledge in the legal issues arising in:
- Financing transactions and associated security arrangements
- Risk management (including compliance systems)
- The use of technology (systems implementation and intellectual property issues)
- Asset acquisitions and dispositions
- Infrastructure projects
- Strategic partnering
- Business structuring and restructuring
- Establishing and operating a lenders mortgage insurance scheme and a loan guarantee facility
- Innovation products to facilitate home ownership
- Government funding assistance for various initiatives
- Energy market regulators and initiatives (like instantaneous reserves)
